Michelle Setsu Holmes

I am an artist and I believe art is an essential mode of communication, as sometimes words can be limiting.

Sharing my art is a fun way to connect at the heart level, real, raw & occasionally radical.

Mukashi, mukashi (long ago) in second grade with pink and red paper tissue squares scattered in front of me.  I gently took each piece, one by one, wrapped them around the back of my pencil, dipped them in glue and placed them side by side on an eight inch heart. “I am doing this forever”… deep in creative bliss I declared those five words! As I continued on my journey and supported myself through a few dark nights, I kept making hearts.

I later learned the heart is more powerful than the mind, which didn’t surprise me.

Living a blessed life in Hawaii for 12 years thus far, opened a portal to fully embrace my Japanese lineage.

My work now embodies my Nippon roots and ancestral influences.

Thank you very much for visiting me here… Arigato gozaimasu, Asante sana and mahalo nui loa… I wish you well
